Key takeaways
- Sprout Social is rated 4.4/5 on G2 (6,883 reviews) and 1.8/5 on Trustpilot (88 reviews).
- 70% of Trustpilot reviews are one star. In our August 2026 read, 34 of 58 one-star reviews were about cancellation, auto-renewal, or the contract. Three were about a bug.
- The top complaints: a monthly plan treated as annual at cancellation, seat charges above the agreed contract, and slow replies once the invoice is the topic.
- Reviewers like the reporting, the scheduling, and the shared inbox. The inbox starts on Standard at $199 per seat per month.
- Three seats on Standard cost $7,164 a year on annual billing. See current pricing.
Our pick: Distribution.ai
Distribution.ai does not turn a monthly plan into an annual contract after you have already tried to cancel.
- Monthly stays monthly. The term is on the checkout screen, not in a PDF that arrives later.
- Adding a seat shows the new total before the card is charged. It does not double an agreed contract and explain why afterward.
- The renewal date and the renewal amount are in the product before the charge.
- A post is marked published only when the network returns a live URL, so a missed post is never a silent one.

The 3 most common Sprout Social complaints
1. Cancelling a monthly Sprout Social plan turns into an annual contract
“After attempting to cancel our monthly subscription, they cited that we had locked into an annual contract under fine print of the agreement they sent. We had been forced to pay thousands of dollars for a mediocre tool that we were barely using.”
Trustpilot, 1 star, 30 Sep 2026
The same reviewer says the next year they were billed again and moved into another annual contract, and that support said it could not find their cancellation email. The reviewer’s word is “fine print.”
Sprout’s pricing page leads with annual billing. The only monthly price it lists is for Essentials: $79 per seat per month on the annual rate, or $99 billed monthly. A headline annual price is not the same thing as a monthly plan that becomes annual at the moment someone tries to cancel. The September review describes the second thing. The pricing page explains how someone can confuse the first.
On Distribution.ai. The term is on the screen where the card is entered. A monthly plan cannot be reclassified by a later agreement. Cancel means the next invoice does not run.
2. Adding seats costs more than the agreed contract
“In January 2026 they charged our American Express almost double the agreed contract amount, they say because someone at our agency added 2 additional users.”
Trustpilot, 1 star, 27 Feb 2026
The reviewer had been a customer since 2023. Seats are the whole price at Sprout. Standard is $199 per seat per month on annual billing. Two extra seats on Standard are $398 a month, $4,776 a year, before the seats you already had.
On Distribution.ai. A new seat shows the new total before it is billable. The card is not the confirmation. The receipt names the seats and the rate.
3. Support goes quiet once the invoice is the topic
“Trying to communicate with our account manager Jack. Nothing back for weeks from him and no response from customer-success team either.”
Trustpilot, 1 star, 15 Oct 2026
This is what happens after the invoice. The bill changes, and the person who can explain it does not write back. Day-to-day support rates well elsewhere. On Software Advice, Sprout scores 4.3 for customer support and 3.9 for value for money. The people using the product get help. The people trying to get out of the contract say they do not.
On Distribution.ai. A billing question goes to a person, and the contract does not need a support ticket to understand.
What Sprout Social reviewers like
The reporting, and an inbox a team can share
“The cost is the main thing to think about, but if you have a team and post a lot it really does help get the job done.”
Software Advice, Sprout Social reviews page
G2’s tags agree. Ease of use, scheduling, and analytics are the three largest praise counts. The consolidated inbox, keyword monitoring, and review management start on Standard, not on the $79 Essentials plan. Essentials covers publishing and reporting for 5 profiles.
On Distribution.ai. Not the inbox, and not Sprout’s reports. Distribution.ai schedules, shows the price, and confirms the post is live. If the deliverable you are buying is a client report and a shared queue of comments, Sprout is built for that. Budget Standard, not the $79 plan, if the inbox is the reason.
Sprout Social pricing in 2026
Sprout Social prices every plan per seat. These are the annual-billing rates on Sprout’s pricing page, read 20 October 2026. There is a 30-day free trial with no credit card required, and there is no free plan.
| Plan | Price (per seat / month, billed annually) | Social profiles | Shared inbox |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essentials | $79 ($99 billed monthly) | Up to 5 | No |
| Standard | $199 | 5 | Yes |
| Professional | $299 | Unlimited | Yes |
| Advanced | $399 | Unlimited | Yes |
| Enterprise | Custom | Unlimited | Yes |
Per-seat pricing adds up fast. Three seats on Essentials cost $237 a month, or $2,844 a year. Three seats on Standard cost $597 a month, or $7,164 a year. A sixth profile does not cost a little more. It moves the account to Professional, at $10,764 a year for three seats.
Our verdict
Is Sprout Social worth it? It is well liked for reporting and its inbox, but Trustpilot reviewers keep hitting annual contracts they say they tried to cancel.
- G2 rates it 4.4 from 6,883 reviews, with ease of use, scheduling, and analytics as the top praise. Trustpilot rates it 1.8 from 88 reviews. Both read on 20 October 2026.
- 70% of Trustpilot reviews are one star. Most of the one-star reviews we read were contract disputes, not bugs.
- Three seats on Standard cost $7,164 a year. Unlimited profiles start at Professional, at $299 per seat per month.
- If you sign, read the term on the agreement, not the pricing page. If you cancel, get the cancellation confirmed in writing before the renewal date.
