What We Shipped in August: Reels, Custom Instructions, and Smarter Link Placement

August was quality of life work. Instagram Reels publishing, custom writing instructions in Style Preferences, link in first comment per platform, and a faster queue.

Distribution.ai August update: Instagram Reels, custom instructions, and link placement

August is usually the quiet month. Ours was busy in an unglamorous way. Quality of life work, a steady stream of fixes, and a handful of features you’ve been asking us for.

Here’s what landed in this Distribution.ai update.

Instagram Reels & Carousels updated

Upload a long video. Distribution.ai cuts it into three short videos, adds the subtitles, reframes them, and writes the descriptions and hashtags.

Last month those went to YouTube Shorts. Now they go to Instagram Reels too.

You point at one long video. You get a week of Instagram posts.

Carousels now take up to 20 images, up from the old limit.

URLs are also stripped from Instagram posts automatically, since Instagram won’t make them clickable. One less thing to catch in review.

Fix one line without rerolling the whole post

Last month we put an AI chat inside the product. This month the chat was enhanced to regenerate parts of posts.

Highlight the sentence that isn’t working, regenerate only that part, and push the post to publishing from there

Before, a weak opening line meant regenerating the entire post and losing the copy you already liked. Now the edit stays scoped to what you selected. Everything else stays exactly as you had it.

Link in first comment, controlled per platform

You can now push the link into the first comment automatically, add your own supporting text with it, and set that behavior separately for each platform. Leave the link in-post on X and drop it to the comment on LinkedIn. Same content, handled the way each platform rewards.

Custom instructions in Style Preferences

Toggles get you close. They don’t cover the specific things your brand does and avoids.

Style Preferences now takes written custom instructions, with optional file uploads alongside them. Whatever you write layers on top of your toggle selections when content is generated, so you can encode the rules that don’t fit into a setting. Say how you handle product names. Ban the phrases you’re tired of seeing. Upload a few posts that got it right and let the generator work from those.

A queue that saves you time

Queue scheduling is more flexible. Time slot settings are editable right in the table, so changing when your queue fires no longer means opening a separate settings page.

The calendar also remembers the view you left it in. Open it tomorrow and you’re back where you were.

The small stuff

Between the bigger releases, a steady run of small improvements went out. Things loading faster. Buttons appearing where you expect them. Edge cases that used to make you refresh the page.

If you’ve ever flagged something to us and seen it quietly sorted within the week, that’s the process working. Keep flagging.

What’s coming after the August update

The pattern behind everything above is the same. One piece of content should keep working long after the day you published it. A video becomes shorts. A post becomes five platform-native versions. Your voice stays yours across all of it, without you rewriting the same paragraph in five boxes.

August closed a lot of the small gaps in that path. September goes after the bigger ones.

Every feature in this post exists because someone was using the product and told us where it slowed them down. If something in your workflow still takes longer than it should, tell us. It’s the shortest route onto the roadmap.
